Phillip Riggs (Music Effect) is currently the Director of Bands at The North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham, NC.  His bands have received numerous Superior Ratings in Concert and Marching Festivals throughout our state. He is active as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the Southeast. He received his undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and his master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He is a member of The North Carolina Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, The National Band Association and The American School Band Directors Association. Mr. Riggs is currently President of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association.

 

Tommy R. Smith (Music Effect) was a high school band director for 30 years.   He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Appalachian State University, and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of South Carolina.  He holds active membership in the North Carolina Music Educators Association, the Central District Bandmasters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  He received the Central District Band Directors Association “Band Director of the Year” and the "Award of Excellence" from the North Carolina Bandmasters Association.  He is a member of The American School Band Director's Association and maintains an active schedule as a clinician and adjudicator for concert and marching festivals throughout Southeastern United States.  Mr. Smith currently serves as the Executive Administrator for the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Marching Band Committee.

 
 

Richard D. Brasco (Music Performance) has taught band for thirty-five years in Georgia and South Carolina. Bands under his direction have performed in Georgia and South Carolina’s State Music Conventions and the ASBDA National Convention. His ensembles have given guest performances at the University of Georgia, the University of South Carolina, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, the Lord Mayor’s Parade in London, the Easter Festival in Maastricht the Netherlands, and at Westminster Central Hall in London. He has served as clinician and adjudicator in Alaska, North and South Carolina, Georgia, London, and Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a four time recipient of the NBA Citation of Excellence.  Mr. Brasco is an adjunct faculty member at Augusta State University where he also conducts the Augusta State University Conservatory Wind Symphony. He is also the conductor of the Savannah River Winds.



Matt Liner (Visual Performance) is currently the Director of Bands at Ronald Reagan High School.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Appalachian State University.  His bands have consistently received Superior ratings at contests and festivals throughout our state in the areas of Concert Band, Marching Band and Jazz.  He was a member of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps and was a member of their visual staff in 2000 and 2001.  Matt serves as a member of the board of directors for the Northwest District Bandmasters Association.  He is a member of MENC/NCMEA, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  Matt and his wife Erin live in Lexington, NC.

 
 

G. Ron Ryles (Visual Effect) is a free-lance Visual Designer, Consultant and Adjudicator. Mr. Ryles’ current adjudication memberships include the North Carolina Bandmasters, the United States Scholastic Band Association (PA), the Florida Federation Judges Association and the Atlantic Indoor Association (NC). Mr. Ryles served as an assistant to the tour director of the 9 time DCI World Champions, the Cadets.  He is an alumnus of the renowned Jacksonville State University "Marching Southerners" and was Drum Major of Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Ryles currently resides with his wife Sharon, and their 3 four-legged, children, Hobbes, Max and Gabby in Concord, NC.


 

Mike Kachman (Percussion) is a 1996 graduate of East Carolina University where he marched with the ECU Drum line in 1992 and 1993. He started teaching marching percussion in 1987 and this year marks the 20th season that he has been involved in the activity. Mike has worked with a number of successful band programs throughout the states of NC and VA including Smithfield-Selma HS, Roanoke Rapids HS, Rocky Mount HS, South Johnston HS, South Granville HS, NW Cabarrus HS, and Floyd E. Kellam HS in Virginia Beach VA.  Mike currently works at Carolina Occupational Therapy, specializing in outpatient Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation.  Mike and his wife Lynda have three beautiful daughters and they reside in Winterville, NC.


 

Stacey J. Miller (Color Guard) is a former member of The World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. He is currently the Vice President of Carolina Winter Ensemble Association.  He was the guard instructor for Grand National Champion Rock Mount Senior High School and The Northwestern “Purple Regiment” from Rock Hill, SC.  Stacey currently lives in Rock Hill, SC where he is currently the Visual Designer for the “Band of Blue” from Walterboro, SC.
